... that today is Veep Day? Alben W. Barkley, the Vice President under President Harry S. Truman, wrote a letter on this day in 1949 that made reference to his office as the Veep. And the name stuck. Barkley was forevermore referred to as the Veep and it has been used for vice presidents ever since.
