pen name was Mark Twain, was born on this date in 1835 in
Florida, Missouri. In response to news that he had died, he
sent the following note to Associated Press: "The report of my
death was an exaggeration." Trivia buffs: Prior to adopting
Mark Twain as his pen name, Clemens wrote under the pen name
Thomas Jefferson Snodgrass.
