American explorers Meriwether Lewis and William Clark
took off from St. Louis, Missouri, on their cross-country exploration on May 14, 1804. They reached the Pacific Ocean in November of 1805 and returned to St. Louis on September 23, 1806. Trivia fans: Trail-wide the Lewis and Clark Expedition set up camp some 600 times. There are 286 Lewis and Clark campsites located in Montana alone!
