Today{23rd December} is the birthday of the Hansom Cab. In 1834,
Joseph Hansom of London, England, patented the Hansom cab. The
hansom cab is a kind of horse-drawn cart designed to combine
speed with safety, with a low center of gravity for safe
cornering. There were up to 3000 hansom cabs in use at the
height of their popularity and they quickly spread to other
cities.
